This room is furnished with walnut wood antiques. 19th century French walnut furniture is typical of south west France where the slow growing trees have flourished for centuries and are still harvested for nuts, oil and wood carving.
The linen curtains were ‘rescued’ from the pavement outside a large London house about twenty years ago. I kept them in storage and then when our youngest son left home last year I redecorated his room using the curtain colours for inspiration. It’s deeply satisfying to upcycle and sew such beautiful quality fabric.
Guessing how much you love handmade touches, have a look at the Indian block print design running round the walls – not too closely though as it’s a bit wonky in places where my hand wobbled!
This pretty bedroom looks out onto the ancient sheltering oak trees on the north side of the château. You will have the choice of two separate bathrooms only steps away along the corridor, one with a traditional bath and basin, and the other with a contemporary shower, basin and loo. And there’s another separate loo nearby. Mornings outside your window are full of birdsong from the golden orioles, woodpeckers and even a pair of hoopoes who visit most years.
Mobility Note:
Lots of small steps and uneven ground are all part of the charm of this ancient site, so enjoy its idiosyncrasies as you wander around gently.
