Imagine yourself drifting off into a deep refreshing sleep in this charming ensuite room with a king size bed, a small dressing room and its own private terrace. Then waking up to birdsong or glimpsing a roe deer whilst still reclining in bed.
The 1920’s carved artwork was rescued from a souk in Cairo because it reminded me of Marc Chagall. The other pictures were painted by my sons when they were at primary school.
The room is on the ground floor so you will not be able to resist opening the French windows, brushing past the mint bushes and wandering barefoot through the dew to pick fruit from one of the old trees.
Feel very connected with the natural world surrounded by humble materials like linen, wood, clay and jute which complement the 15th century stone walls and oak ceiling beams. The Ercol chairs were a charity shop find in England.
The subtle and delicious scent in this room comes from the ensuite shower room where I have filled a stone niche with cubes of natural olive oil soap. The hustle and bustle of the outside world seem to simply slip away after a few nights in this peaceful bedroom.
Mobility Note:
Lots of small steps and uneven ground are all part of the charm of this ancient site, so enjoy its idiosyncrasies as you wander around gently.
