Botanical printing on paper and fabric
With Ann Stephens
This workshop will give you and your group the perfect opportunity to learn about the wonderful world of botanical printing. English textile artist Ann Stephens will begin by leading you on a foraging walk around the château’s garden, trees and fields to collect leaves, bark, flowers, nuts and other plant materials for use in the printing process. Autumnal October is the perfect time of year to gather and harvest nature’s bounty. After a few days you will be so inspired to create that you will never look at a hedgerow in the same way again!

You will be using a variety of natural fabrics and papers as a base for printing on. There will be a plentiful supply of vintage French linens, silks and papers for your experimenting and creating.
Using a fire outside to heat the saucepans, you will stir and ‘cook’ your fabric bundles and folded papers, learning how to transform them into botanical prints. This is a magical process because you will only be using the natural elements to create your unique prints.
The plant material will leave a ‘memory’ on the base material and the results can then be transformed into a small book, with Ann guiding you through the process of folding and binding the pages. You can also make your own greetings cards and small bespoke gifts.
